Go All-Digital

Supporting the global environment we supply all software as digital downloads only. How can you participate?

We all can be part of the solution. Digital downloads are the "green" answer to demanding fewer resources for your computer's needs. What you get is software with an environmental footprint of zero while still staying up-to-date.

Digital downloads are one part of the larger trend in making our lives - both professional and personal - cleaner, more efficient, and better. Continue reading to see what else you can do to improve your green computing.

Limit screen-saver use. A screen saver does not save energy. In fact, more often than not, a screen saver not only will draw power for the monitor, but also will keep the CPU from shutting down. Instead, set your computer to turn off the monitor first, then go into standby mode after a longer period of inactivity.

Disconnect your Virtual Private Network (VPN) when not actively using your corporate network. Being connected may limit your system's ability to enter standby mode.

Many popular computer games and other third party software packages that run in the background will not allow the computer to go to sleep - even if they are paused or the active window is minimized.

Some web sites or pages that have active banners and or animated advertisements will not allow the computer to sleep on its own and must be closed, or the computer put manually into a sleep state.

Enabled power management to place your monitor, hard drives and computer into a low-power "sleep" mode after a period of inactivity.

Monitor/display sleep: Turn off after 15 minutes or less

Turn off hard drives/hard disk sleep: 15 minutes or less

System standby/sleep: After 30 minutes or less

Advanced users may wish to establish multiple power schemes to address different usage models. For example, you can create a power scheme for playing music CDs that shuts off your hard drive and monitor immediately, but never puts your system into standby mode.

To further reduce power consumption, turn off computing and peripheral devices that are not being used or being used for an extended period of time such as overnight.

Plug all your electronics into one surge protector, so you can easily switch them all off when you leave the room or go to sleep. Most power supplies (such as your cell phone charger) continue to draw power and generate heat even when not attached to a device.

Complete toolset for structural steel design

Advance Steel detailing software offers structural engineers and detailers a large library of intelligent parametric structural elements, steel connections, and plates.

What's new

Fabrication data information Get access to fabrication data information in sub-assemblies and in the documentation. Transfer fabrication data properties from one assembly to another (and with its associated attached parts) by using the Match Properties command. All tokens for fabrication data information are also available for external bills-of-materials (BOMs) and lists on drawings.
Repeat Last command Save productivity and clicks with the Repeat Last command. If you right-click an area in your model, you can repeat a command several times. This behavior has been extended for more commands than in previous releases.
Beam offset information in label Get the beam offset value that's automatically displayed in labels. The relative vertical position of structural members is displayed through the beam label on drawings. This is controlled by a token that automatically displays the beam offset value (or position, if the beam is inclined) in the object label in relation to the Plan view on the general arrangement drawing.
Snap points on anchors Work with snap points to more efficiently dimension anchors on drawings. You can snap to specific snap points on anchors (when they're displayed with their exact representation) on general arrangement drawings. This helps provide useful points for manual dimensioning.
Grid balloon placement control Control the placement and size of grid balloons and improve the appearance of your drawings. You can do this by "breaking" the grid extension line, and offsetting the position of the balloon and part of the grid extension line to the sides. In addition, a new option lets you place grid line symbols and balloons at the top in Elevation views. You can also keep the balloon size equal on the sheet and decrease the text size to fit the balloon borders.
Structural member representation Structural members can be displayed as symbols. You have several options to choose from. The Beam symbol is always placed at the end of the line that represents the left side on the assembly drawing of this part.
Custom clipping symbols Gain greater control of clipping symbols in Detail view. When showing part of a model on a drawing in Detail view, you can choose from different types of clipping symbols for elements that are not fully included in this view.
User-defined formulas in BOMs Now you can include formulas such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in your BOMs template. All used tokens in a line can be part of the calculation. The result is then automatically calculated and appears in the obtained BOM. This helps you add, for example, an extra 5% to your bolt quantity to be shipped at the site.
Templates for lists on drawings A new template for creating a list on drawings is available with connection location information on single-part drawings. This provides information if the parts are shop-welded, shop-bolted, or both.
Steel connections synchronization Synchronize steel connections between models created in Revit and/or Advance Steel, while keeping them as intelligent parametric connections. You can customize the Synchronization dialog box by adding specific columns labeled Connection parameters - Files and Connection parameters so you can more easily compare the differences. A Connection checkbox in the Filters category lets you hide the connection lines from the dialog box.
View native drawings in AutoCAD The Advance Steel object enabler lets you open any Advance Steel 2D drawing in plain AutoCAD. You can't modify the drawing content. However, you can complete the drawing by inserting AutoCAD dimensions or annotations because you can snap to objects displayed within the drawing.
Open and flexible API Advance Steel provides a rich and powerful API (application programming interface) that you can use to automate repetitive tasks, and extend the software's core functionality in modeling, designing steel connections, and more. The API lets you program with any .NET compliant language, including VB.NET, C#, and managed C++. The Software Development Toolkit provides .NET code samples and documentation to help you get started developing with the API.

Repeat Last command Save productivity and clicks with the Repeat Last command. If you right-click an area in your model, you can repeat a command several times. This behavior has been extended for more commands than in previous releases.
Intelligent structural objects Model faster using a large library of intelligent parametric structural objects, or use tools to easily create custom structural elements. Use wizards to quickly model standard objects, such as trusses, bracings, purlins, and portal frames.
Parametric steel connections Reduce design and modeling time with an extensive library of ready-to-use parametric steel connections. The connections in the library are parametric; changes to any structural member's size automatically adjust the connection's size.
Built-in connection design engine Validate steel connections by checking compliance with American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) or Eurocodes 3 (EC3) standards. Obtain a printable report of calculations based on the formulas used.
Stairs, railings, and cage ladders Use wizards to generate more accurate straight and spiral stairs; straight and curved railings; and cage ladders. Then, easily modify their properties by using a large selection of customizable parameters.
Sheet metal and folded plate work Use dedicated commands to create complex sheet metal designs such as folded, twisted, or conical metal plates. Create unfolded shop drawings, complete with folding line, bending direction, folding angles, and dimensions, which include CNC data for fabrication.
Weld definition properties Whether they are user-defined or automatically generated, weld symbols that use automatic steel connectors contain information in the model and on drawings, including effective throat, root opening, and more. Automatically display weld symbols based on ISO standards. Customize them to your preferences by adjusting a DWG™ file containing parameters specific to the welds.
Select and view parts of a model Isolate selected elements in a work area to improve performance when working with complex models. Quickly choose selected elements in a work area and view them in the current visual style. Background data gets a much lower level of detail, with only the beams axis shown.
Model-based approval workflow Improve the review and approval process of your project. Color-code objects based on their approval status, or assign approval status manually to a document or drawing. Control the status of your project through specific parameters available for assemblies and steel connections.

List on general arrangement drawings Insert a drawing list of your general arrangement drawings and fill it automatically using a customized or ready-to-use template.

Detailing & documentation

User-defined formulas in BOMs Now you can include formulas such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in your BOMs template. All used tokens in a line can be part of the calculation. The result is then automatically calculated and appears in the obtained BOM. This helps you add, for example, an extra 5% to your bolt quantity to be shipped at the site.
Templates for lists on drawings A new template for creating a list on drawings is available with connection location information on single-part drawings. This provides information if the parts are shop-welded, shop-bolted, or both.
Versatile numbering Select the numbering method that works best for you. Choose between numbering methods and various parameters, such as the project phase or project name, to define the format.
Steel shop drawings Use customizable templates to generate more accurate part and assembly drawings that are labeled and dimensioned to your specifications.
Labels in dimension lines Both automatic and manual dimension lines can be affixed with a text label entered by the user or filled automatically by using available attributes. Generate dimensions on drawings based on AISC standards. Labels in dimension lines may help when you're defining tolerances. Overwrite the dimension value if necessary.
Create more accurate BOMs Use predefined or custom formats to create more accurate BOMs, and help avoid material waste. Advance Steel automatically generates BOMs by using templates that extract information directly from data within the 3D model. This helps reduce creation time and improve accuracy. Advance Steel can also export BOMs to different file formats, such as XLS and PDF, so that other team members can also view the information.
NC data Output compliant NC files that are compatible with most machine manufacturers. Advance Steel automatically generates files in DSTV format for CNC workshop machines, including welding robots, so you can directly transfer data from 3D models to fabrication.
Document Manager Help save time with a centralized document management system that lets you visually track files.
Integrated revision control Advance Steel can automatically create revision clouds in drawings, highlighting changes made since the previous version of the drawing.
